Trip Description

We’re excited to announce that we will be going back to Nicaragua this coming Spring Break! Each year we partner with a ministry out of South Carolina called Chosen Children Ministries and we serve alongside them to help meet the needs of local Nicaraguan families. In the past we have built houses and playgrounds, connected families to local churches, and offered vacation Bible school programs for children in these communities. We have been traveling to Nicaragua with them for 10+ years now. During the trip we are directed and cared for by a number of full-time, Nicaraguan Chosen Children Staff members who love Jesus and lead us well.

On this trip, we stay in Masaya, Nicaragua, and during the day we travel into impoverished communities and partner with a local church to do ministry.

Throughout each day, students have the option of doing three different things: relational ministry/evangelism, VBS, or construction. That will happen for most of the trip days, and then on the last day we have a free day where we do some sort of recreational activity (TBD). We stay on a compound run by Chosen Children that is safe and comfortable. Meals are all provided and the food (especially the coffee) is delicious. At night, we gather under a pavilion and debrief the day, share stories, worship together, and spend time in the Word of God and in prayer.

Total Trip Cost: TBD
Includes: Flights, ground costs, food, and lodging.
Does not include: any money that students wish to bring to purchase souvenirs, or any fees necessary for updating passports, etc.

Trip dates: March 3-10, 2024

The trip is being led by Onward Staff Members as well as local Chosen Children Staff Members.

Due to the non-profit status of Onward and Chosen Children, all contributions towards the trip are considered donations and are non-refundable.

Sign-ups for both trips will happen October 3rd, 2023, from 9am-5pm at the Onward Office (403 E Magnolia Ave). You must sign up in person. You may not sign up for your friends. If you are unable to make it to sign up during that time, you may sign up at the Onward Weekly Meeting (8pm in Langdon Hall). Spots on the trip are randomly chosen — it is not first-come-first-serve. If you get a spot on the trip, you will be notified through email. You will have until the following Monday (Oct. 9) to secure your spot by paying a $250 deposit. If you do not get one of the top 72 spots, you will be placed on a waitlist and you will be notified through email of where you sit on the waitlist. If anyone that gets one of the top 72 spots drops or fails to pay their deposit, the next person on the waitlist will move onto the list, and that person will be able to secure their spot by paying a $250 deposit.
